Mormon Church in Ukraine
The history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the Mormon Church) in Ukraine is not a very long one. Once part of the Soviet Union, completely closed off to Mormon missionaries, Ukraine only opened up for the preaching of the gospel in October 1990. By September 1991, about 70 people had baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Official recognition for the Church was granted by the government on September 9 of that year, and visas were granted to a total of 20 missionaries. Then-Elder Boyd K. Packer of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles dedicated the country for the preaching of the gospel on September 12.
